Elena Hubert, Co-Editor in Chief

Elena is a senior and a co-editor-in-chief of the Southerner. As the captain of both the varsity cross country and public forum debate teams, she can most likely be found running while listening to the New York Times’ the Daily podcast for the few hours that she is not at Grady. Elena is on the content team of the Foreign Policy Youth Collaborative, a nonprofit focused on relaying nonpartisan information pertaining to worldwide issues. Journalism is near and dear to Elena’s heart, and she looks forward to her stories to come.

Art teacher John Brandhorst works on the mechanical component of the whirligigs, which serve as the titular inspiration of the play and the vehicle of reconcilement for protagonist Brent Bishop (Nicky Taylor). "Whirligig" follows 17-year-old Bishop as he builds whirligigs to atone for killing a girl in a drunk driving accident.

Senior Emilia Gustafson, who portrays Mrs. Zamora, adjusts the mask she will perform in. All cast members participating in the in-person recording of "Whirligig" will don the masks.
