Georgia re-elected Nathan Deal as Governor and elected David Perdue as U.S. Senator Tuesday night. The Southerner staff provided election night coverage for each candidate. Check back for an in-depth story on the election results and what this means for Georgia’s future.

After three seasons of deep playoff runs that included Elite Eight, Final Four and State Championship appearances, the girls soccer team bowed out early in the Round of Sixteen on Apr. 23, losing 2-1 to Greater Atlanta Christian.

Sophomore Cameron Collier leads the Knights in warm-ups for the first meet, Bob Blastow Invitational, of the 2023 season on Aug. 26. Collier placed first for the Knights with a time of 16:53. During his freshman year Collier finished with a time of 19:31 on the same course. Collier ended the season with a personal record of 16:05 running at the Alexander/Asics Invitational on Sept. 30. The time put him as the fastest sophomore in Midtown history and third overall.

The Georgia Student Finance Commission collaborated with 49 Georgia colleges to waive application fees in March. This removed barriers for Midtown students who were previously unable to apply to certain colleges.

As part of a land swap deal with the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, a new Public Storage building is being constructed on Monroe Drive near the Eastside BeltLine Trail entrance, a street away from Midtown, with its previous location on Piedmont Avenue.
