APS honors former Congressman Lewis with new community service center

John Lewis Invictus Academy (JLIA) is celebrating Black History Month with the launch of a new school-based community service center, as former Congressman John Lewis spent much of his life fighting for equality.

Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Herring, Mayor Andre Dickens and U.S. Congresswoman Nikema Williams were in attendance at this morning’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for the service center. The service center aims to help students with struggles concerning mental health, clothing and food among others in order for students to succeed in school.
