Music Midtown: Everything to know before the festival

Georgia’s biggest music festival returns to Atlanta for the 20th Music Midtown. The festival will take place on September 16th and 17th and as the date approaches excitement among Grady students builds up. Piedmont Park will be transformed for the weekend as some of music’s biggest stars take the stage.
This fall, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, Imagine Dragons and Fall Out Boy will headline the festival. Other performers include Khalid, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Gucci Mane, Janelle Monáe, Portugal. The Man, The Revivalists, Foster the People, Kacey Musgraves, Sylvan Esso, BØRNS, First Aid Kit, Billie Eilish, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Bazzi, AWOLNATION, Chromeo, Butch Walker, Maggie Rogers, K.Flay, ARIZONA, Twin Shadow, Robert DeLong, lovelytheband, SAINT JHN, Two Feet, Black Pistol Fire, SiR, The Aces, Mattiel, Arthur Buck, Yuno and Berklee College of Music.
Many of the performer are just around the age of Grady students. The lineup reflect the audience, youthful and energetic. One of the performers Billie Eilish rose to fame 3 years ago when she was just 13 years old. Her debut single, “Ocean Eyes”, went viral and has accumulated over 87 million streams on Spotify alone as of July 2018. Her debut EP Don’t Smile at Me was released in August 2017. Khalid just turned 20, and is an Georgia native. His debut single, “Location”, was released in July 2016 and peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and was later certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. His debut studio album, American Teen, was released on March 3, 2017 when he was just 19 years old.
Imagine Dragons performed at Music Midtown five years go when they were barely famous and are now returning as headliners.Their drummer Daniel Platzman, an Atlanta native told the AJC that he became a drummer because his uncle took him to Music Midtown when he was a child. Their biggest hits include “Thunder”, “Whatever It takes”, “Radioactive”, and “Believer”. Gucci Mane also grew up in Atlanta, he continues to represent East Atlanta.  
In order to eliminate any stress and make everything flow smoothly here are a few things to know before the big weekend. The doors open at noon and close at 11pm on Saturday, and on Sunday open from noon to 10pm.

  • Drones or any other remote flying device
  • Coolers
  • Hammocks
  • Baby Strollers
  • Signs larger than 11? x 17?.
  • Glass and metal containers 
  • Illegal and Illicit substances 
  • Outside food or beverage
  • Umbrellas
  • Pets
  • Professional radios or walkie-talkies
  • Selfie sticks
  • Skateboards, scooters, bicycles, wagons, carts or any personal motorized vehicles
  • Tents, canopies, or shade structures of any kind
  • Fireworks, and weapons
  • Large chains or spiked jewelry
  • Bicycles inside festival grounds
  • Chairs

Other Useful Information

  • You are allowed to enter and exit the Festival as many times as needed 
  • Lockers will be available for rent to store your personal items
  • There are areas where you can charge your mobile device. 

How To Get To Music Midtown

  • Traffic will be bad, and parking will be difficult and or expensive
  • MARTA  
  • Walk or Ride the Beltline to and from Piedmont Park.
