Knights defeat Southwest Dekalb Panthers in first boys lacrosse game

The Grady Boys lacrosse team played their first game of the season at Grady against Southwest Dekalb, a first year varsity team. Grady started out shaky by going down two goals in the first couple minutes.

“[I] called a timeout, talked to the guys and told them to hustle and get the ground balls and start playing our offense,” said Jon Oshner, the coach of the team. “Once we started doing that, we started getting goal after goal after goal.”

Grady scored 12 goals before letting another goal in to bring the final score to 13-3.

“I tried to schedule an easier match because a lot of the kids have never played before,” Oshner said. “It’s a good practice for them because we only practice on half of the field and the full field game is completely different.”

Though the team played well, junior Tucker Lancaster still thinks that the team could use some improvement.

“We still have a lot to work out,” Lancaster said, “[Southwest Dekalb] was not a difficult team, but it was good to get field experience and see what we need to work on. We are going to need to step up in order to compete.”

The next Grady Boys’ lacrosse game is Jan. 21 against Martin Luther King Jr. High School at MLK.
