Atlanta Public Schools to close beginning Monday

Atlanta Public Schools will close Monday, March 16 for up to two weeks in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

APS is one of fifteen school districts in Georgia that are closing or preparing to close. APS, Dekalb County Schools, Cobb County Schools, the University System of Georgia, and more will be closing on March 16. APS students and staff are to report to work and school Friday, March 13 to prepare for an extended leave. 

Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen responded to Gov. Brian Kemp’s recommendation for school districts to consider closing as early as tomorrow, March 13, 2020.

She posted: “Based on rec by Gov. @BrianKempGA on 3/12, APS is going to close, however, need everyone to come to work & class tomorrow, Friday, 3/13, to prepare for an extended leave starting Monday. Anticipate being closed up to 2 wks & potentially extending beyond Spring Break.#COVID19″
