The APS Knights, the combined water polo team with both Grady players and North Atlanta players, won its third game in a row Wednesday 11-4 over the Collins Hill Eagles B team. After going down 3-2 in the first period, the Knights dominated the rest of the game, outscoring the Eagles 9-1. Coach Robin Smith described the shift in play after the first period.

“Once the nerves were out of the way after the first quarter everyone settle in and they started doing what they were taught to do and carried on and played well.”

Luke Paddock and Ryan Switzer led the way for the Knights, scoring 3 goals and 6 goals, respectively. Troy Kleber and Harrison Wilco also scored for the Knights. It was on the other side of the pool, however, where there was obvious improvement for the Knights.

“It’s something that we’ve been working on in practices, is defense, defense, you hear me screaming defense the whole game,” Coach Smith said. “We’ve gotten better and better. It’s starting to sink in.”

The Knights are undefeated after their 1 goal overtime loss in the first game of the season, and as they look forward to their next game Wednesday vs. Pace Academy and to games later on, coach Smith is ready for more difficult opponents.

“This game was a little bit of an easier one, but yeah, it’s gonna get tougher.”
