The red neon sign reading “Doc Chey’s” glows above the young and the old as they eat at the restaurant, which has established itself as a part of the neighborhood families, not just the community. A restaurant that grows up with the children as much as it winds down with the parents sits on top of a hill in the Morningside-Virginia Highland area
Doc Chey’s Noodle House serves a classic mix of pan-Asian cuisine that has evolved over twenty years to represent the particular taste of the frequent visitors. Every night, Chef Rich Chey cooks up some Chicken Lo Mein and the friends begin to pour in the door like soy sauce.
The menu includes fried rice, edamame, coconut soup, stir fries, and lots and lots of noodles. Doc Chey’s serves over 20 noodle dishes, with varying choices of meat. The restaurant has a well known, familiar mantra: Peace, Love, Noodles. INsight Atlanta, a local newspaper, recently awarded them “Best Noodle Bowl In Atlanta.”
A local special, Hawaiian Fried Rice, contains pineapple and snow peas. It is one of the many dishes that introduce new flavors and combine cultures. The prices on the menus are affordable and keep the guests coming back.
Doc Chey’s is able to attract young families and Morningside retirees, and according to Melanie Vaughn, Operations Manager and long-time partner, that’s for one signature reason.
“We love our families and have watched their kids grow up,” Vaughn said. “Many of the teenagers who visit us today started out with us as toddlers.”
The connections inside the restaurant reflect the family-oriented attitude and presence. Vaughn considers her staff to be superior.
The restaurant reaches out to local schools, like Morningside Elementary and Inman Middle School, and supports many neighborhood races and events. The Morningside Mile and Breakfast With Santa, an event that raises money for local fire stations, are two of the fundraisers they organize.
After 20 years of being a part of a neighborhood family you can’t help but make lasting impressions. ‘Doc Chey’s’ is a name that symbolizes quality food and caring service.
Go ahead and visit Doc Chey’s Noodle House. You never know, you might find yourself growing up a little there too.
