The Southerner and thesoutherneronline.com were rated All-Southern and racked up more than 10 awards for this year’s Southern Interscholastic Press Association’s Best Writing Contest. In individual awards, junior Maura O’Sullivan won first place in the editorial column category, sophomore Duncan Tanner won first place in online sports stories, senior Tyler Jones won third place in sports feature stories, senior Bram Mansbach won first place in sports column stories, sophomore Yei Bin Andrews tied for third place in feature stories, senior Helen Moore won second place in online features and freshman Lucia Gravel won second place in online news stories. Additionally, to name a few, Royce Mann, Dana Richie, Lanier Pickren & Katherine Esterl won first place for their investigative stories and George Lefkowicz & Tyler Jones won third place for their story in the same category.
