Hurricane Dorian projected to strengthen to Category 3 storm

Hurricane Dorian is forecast to strengthen and become a Category 3 hurricane on Friday as it approaches the U.S. mainland. It is predicted to take landfall on Florida’s Atlantic Coast late Sunday or Monday morning. The storm passed through the U.S. Virgin Islands as a Category 1 storm on Wednesday, causing minor flooding and power outages. Puerto Rico, which is still recovering from Hurricane Maria in 2017, avoided any direct landfall. Governor Brian Kemp announced on Wednesday that state officials have been monitoring Dorian’s development in order to measure the hurricane’s effect on the state. He warned Georgians to keep an eye out for the weather ahead of Labor Day weekend. The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency released information on hurricane preparation here.
