Girls basketball opens Thanksgiving Break against Hapeville

Grady’s girls basketball team, fresh off a 40-27 season opening victory over South Atlanta on Nov. 13, will face Hapeville Charter on Saturday Nov. 17. The game, on the opening weekend of the Thanksgiving Break, tips off at Grady at  2:00 p.m.

Grady's girls and boys basketball teams open the 2018-2019 season at home on Tuesday, Nov. 13 against South Atlanta. Both teams are looking to bounce back from disappointing seasons in 2017-2018. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. for the girls game and 7:00 p.m. for the boys contest.

Knights fall to Banneker 45-7 to end season

The Knights football team closed the season with a 45-7 loss at Banneker, ending the season 1-9, the team’s lowest win total since the late 1970s. Grady finished the 1978 season 0-10 and the 1976 and 1977 season 1-9. The 2013 team finished 8-3 but was forced to forfeit the season to finish 0-11 officially.

The K nights close out the 2018 football season Friday, Nov. 2 against Banneker on Senior Knight. Seniors from all fall sports and activities will be honored at halftime of the game, which starts at 8 p.m. at Grady Stadium. The 1-8 Knights will face the 8-1 Trojans, the first-place team in Region 6AAAAA.

Riverwood shuts out Knights

A resurgent 7-2 Riverwood Raiders, who were 2-8 in 2017, shut out the Knights 35-0 in Grady's last home football game. The loss drops the Knights to 1-8 and in a fifth-place tie with North Springs at 1-5 in the eight-team Region 6AAAAA. Grady closes the season at 8-1 Banneker, the region leader, on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in College Park.

Girls repeat as region Cross Country champions, boys runner-up

The girls cross country team repeated as Region 6AAAAA champions, led by senior Anna Tischer, junior Lindsay Schroeder and freshman Ellie Spears, who finished third, fourth and fifth. The girls and boys cross country teams compete today at the Region 6AAAAA Cross Country Championship meet today at Boundary Waters Park in Douglas County. Both teams are defending region champions and are expected to face still competition from Decatur and Riverwood.

JV football finishes season with first win

The Knights JV football team finished the season with its first victory, a 17-7 defeat of city and region rival Maynard Jackson on Oct. 24 at Grady Stadium. The team completes the season with a 1-6 record. With a young varsity team this year, many JV players have also seen varsity playing time this season.

Vollyball team eliminated in second round of state playoffs

The volleyball team saw its most successful season come to an end in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs with a 3-0 loss to Buford. After finishing as the third seed from Region 6AAAAA, the Knights upset Rome to advance to Tuesday's season-ending contest against the Wolves. Grady's Katie Wood, a senior, was named to the All-Region First Team.

The Knights volleyball team, despite more losses than wins during the regular season and a third-place seed from Region 6AAAAA, pulled off a 3-2, first-round upset in the state playoffs to defeat the Rome Wolves on Oct. 20. Rome was the second-place seed from Region 5AAAAA. Grady advances to the second round for the first time.

The Knights football team dropped to 1-6  with a 42-28 loss to North Springs on Friday, Oct. 12. Grady next week faces city rival Maynard Jackson on Oct. 19 at Grady Stadium. The Jaguars defeated Lithia Springs 49-6, the only team the Knights have beaten this season with a 30-0 win in their fourth game.
