Ultimate tryouts start Jan. 22

The Ultimate team will hold tryouts starting Tuesday, Jan. 22 through Friday, Jan. 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Central Park fields. Tryouts are open to Grady students and to eighth grade boys and girls from Inman Middle School.

The Knights' girls and boys basketball teams are firmly into their region schedules and face Region 6AAAAA rival Lithia Springs tonight in a home game. The girls play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 7 p.m. Lithia Springs girls are third in the region with a 9-8 overall record and a 5-2 region mark. The boys basketball team fell 66-51 to region rival Decatur last night, to drop to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in Region 6AAAAA. Grady's boys and girls varsity basketball teams will face Region 6AAAAA and neighborhood rival Maynard Jackson on Friday, Nov. 30 in the Grady gymnasium. The boys enter the contest with at 2-2 overall and 0-1 on the region after a 72-67 loss to traditional basketball power Lithia Springs on Nov. 27. Grady's varsity boys basketball team went 2-1 over the Thanksgiving break, losing against Spencer High School of Columbus on Nov. 20. Knights  went on to win two tournament games on Nov. 23 and 24 against Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy and Mays, downing the Raiders 81-79 in two overtimes.

Knights fall to Banneker 45-7 to end season

The Knights football team closed the season with a 45-7 loss at Banneker, ending the season 1-9, the team’s lowest win total since the late 1970s. Grady finished the 1978 season 0-10 and the 1976 and 1977 season 1-9. The 2013 team finished 8-3 but was forced to forfeit the season to finish 0-11 officially.

The K nights close out the 2018 football season Friday, Nov. 2 against Banneker on Senior Knight. Seniors from all fall sports and activities will be honored at halftime of the game, which starts at 8 p.m. at Grady Stadium. A resurgent 7-2 Riverwood Raiders, who were 2-8 in 2017, shut out the Knights 35-0 in Grady's last home football game. The loss drops the Knights to 1-8 and in a fifth-place tie with North Springs at 1-5 in the eight-team Region 6AAAAA. The girls and boys cross country teams compete today at the Region 6AAAAA Cross Country Championship meet today at Boundary Waters Park in Douglas County. Both teams are defending region champions and are expected to face still competition from Decatur and Riverwood.
