After a 1 day and 24 minute conclave, Robert Francis Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV, has been chosen as the new Pope to lead the world’s 1.4 billion Roman Catholics. Pope Leo, 69, is from Chicago, Il. and has been described as a “dignified middle of the road.” Pope Leo is also a naturalized citizen of Peru, where he served for two decades and became a bishop. Pope Francis brought him to the Vatican in 2023 to serve as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, where he led the department to select new Catholic bishops.
