Trump signed three executive orders on Mon. April 27, ramping up immigration crackdown. These new changes jeopardize the safety of immigrants, even in sanctuary cities and states. The executive orders are as follows: “Enforcing Commonsense Rules of the Road for America’s Truck Drivers” mandates that commercial truck drivers be proficient in English to ensure road safety. This directs the Department of Transportation to revise procedures to reflect this requirement.
“Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens” directs the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to organize a list of “sanctuary jurisdictions” that obstruct federal immigration law enforcement. It aims to ensure illegal aliens are not favored over U.S. citizens, including in state or local laws related to in-state tuition or criminal sentencing.
“Strengthening and Unleashing America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens” establishes practices at the State and local level so cities can unleash high-impact local police forces, protect and defend wrongly accused and abused law enforcement officers and boost resources to officers in need. It will enable law enforcement officers across America to focus on ending crime, not pursuing “equity” policies.
