On March 31, after the Georgia Democratic Party committee voted to make party Chair a full time position, United States Representative Nikema Williams stepped down from the position. Williams announcement comes after debate from officials on whether or not a sitting lawmaker could continue the full-time role. Williams was the first Black woman elected to lead the state party when she took on the chair role in 2019. Vice Chair Matthew Wilson will serve as interim.
