For five years, freshman Lizzie Lyman has enjoyed practicing martial arts after school. She is a brown belt, which is the highest ranked belt for a karate student. Lyman thinks her interest has taught her important skills in self-defense and working with others.

“I’m a brown belt, so I’d say I’m pretty good,” Lyman said. “Karate is something I’m really passionate about and I think it teaches me a lot of things as well as being violent.”
