Infinite Energy Center lit faces of thousands of screaming fans on July 29th at popstar Shawn Mendes’ concert.

Shawn Mendes successfully conquered a crowd of 13,000 in Atlanta on July 29th. The Illuminate Tour a made stop at the Infinite Energy Center, one of the 50 date of his world tour. With help of opening act Charlie Puth, the crowd illuminated with joy.
Charlie Puth proved as the perfect opening act for  the 18-year-old Mendes. Puth set the excitement performing hits such as “One Call Away” and “We Don’t Talk Anymore.”  Puth finished his set leaving the crowd eager for more. From 4-year-olds to 40-year-olds, enthusiasm radiated in the arena. As the lights got lower, a single blue lite ball appeared above the stage like a chandelier.
Mendes appears and the screams continue as he opens with his newest radio single “There’s Nothing Holding’ Me Back.” Acoustic backed with a pop beat seemed to be a theme in Mendes’ hits such as “Stitches” and “Treat You Better.”
Hit after hit, I was pleasantly surprised with just how many songs the crowd, as well as I, knew all the words to. The upbeat acoustics kept the crowd on their feet the entire night, even through the slower tempo songs.
Mendes interactions with the audience were both humorous as well as heartfelt.
He expressed an emotional “thank you” when dedicating soft paced song “A Little Too Much” to fans. After, Mendes quickly lightened the mood and had the whole crowd on their feet with his hit “Stitches.”
Saying Mendes’ fans are dedicated would be an understatement. Mendes tells the crowd that some fans have been with him since he was 15. Before signing with Island Records, the baby-faced kid from Canada gained a mass following on the Vine app in 2013, posting 7 second video loops of just him and his guitar. His internet following gave Mendes the chance to do what he loves, and do it well.
It’s hard not to fall for Mendes’ “boy next door” look and personable charm. Although, his boyband look contrasts with his folk infused voice. Mendes’ various vocal ranges and styles were exemplified in cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Castle on a Hill.”
Mendes closes the show with “Treat You Better,”  which has consecutively stood in the Billboard charts for four months. The blue lights faded as Mendes thanked the crowd, but the screams remained alive.
