Georgia income tax revenue rises despite rate cuts

Georgia’s income tax collections rose 1.9% to $3.9 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, despite multiple rate cuts over recent years. Additionally, some Republicans now openly advocate for abolishing the state income tax, which critics warn could shift burdens onto lower-income residents through higher sales and service taxes.
