In the lead-up to the 2021 Atlanta City Elections, the Southerner has compiled a list of 8 key races that readers in the district that Midtown High School will be voting on. Using official statements, previous reports and recorded interviews, the Southerner has broken down the candidates’ positions on specific issues.
Mayoral Election
Antonio Brown, Andre Dickens, Sharon Gay, Felicia Moore and Kasim Reed are running for Atlanta Mayor. The race is a nonpartisan general election and is determined by a citywide vote. The current Mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, was elected in 2017 but has chosen not to seek re-election. There are 16 candidates in total running for the position, but the Southerner has chosen to provide information only on the stances of the top 5 polling candidates, determined according to an Oct. 22 poll by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
