The Southerner recognized at Georgia Scholastic Press Association

The Georgia Scholastic Press Association First Edition winners from the 2024 Fall Conference were announced on Oct. 24. The Southerner was recognized for the winning news story, feature story and sports story. The Southerner also received runner-up for the opinion piece category.
The best news story was written by senior Sierra Pape, Apalachee High School shooting shakes community, sparks state-wide threats. The winning feature story was written by seniors Sierra Pape and Lily Rachwalski and junior Henry Moye, School community navigates first month of new phone policy. The winning sports story was written by sophomore Sara Centner, Rising star: Owen shines at Olympic Trials.
