Two Southerner stories and a cartoon chosen as finalists for NSPA awards

The Southerner has two Story of the Year finalists for the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA). One of the stories, written by three graduates Ava Smith, Stella Mackler and Anna Rafferty, Mary Lin parent civil rights complaint alleges discriminatory practices received the Best of Sno award. The second story, More out-of-zone students should be allowed to attend Midtown, written by Marcus Johnson, also received a Best of Sno. Cartoon made by Anna Rachwalski, for story Texas abortion law forgets who’s most vulnerableis a finalist for NSPA Cartoon of the year. The winners will be named at this weekend’s (Nov. 12-13) NSPA conference.
