It’sugar opens in Atlantic Station

When people go to Atlantic Station, they usually go to Kilwins chocolate and ice cream shop or Great American Cookies for something sweet. These two stores, however, are no longer the only places in Atlantic Station to go for a treat.

A new candy shop, It’sugar, opened on Oct. 9, located right across the street from Kilwins.

Jeff Rubin, who has been involved for years in the “candy business,” founded It’sugar in 2006. Rubin and his family also started the candy shop “FAO Schweetz,” which was located inside of FAO Schwartz, a popular toy store in New York City. Along with Dylan Lauren, the daughter of fashion mogul Ralph Lauren, Rubin also launched Dylan’s Candy Bar, an immensely popular candy emporium also located in New York City.

Rubin’s new candy endeavour, It’sugar, appears to be similar to Rubin’s other major candy project, Dylan’s Candy Bar. Both locations are brightly lit, very colorful, full of candy, and packed with young children. But It’sugar has one major qualification that sets it apart from other candy stores.

“It’sugar is known for its oversized candies!” Store manager Shaunie Genus said.

Some examples of the massive candy include 1-pound chocolate bars, 5-pound chocolate bars, a 5-pound gummy bear, a 23-inch long gummy worm and the “Party Python,” an 8-foot long, 127-pound gummy worm, for only $150.

It’sugar has normal-sized candy as well, over 3000 different kinds, but not the kind one would expect. It’sugar sells designer candy, such as candy wrapping designed by Seventeen magazine, and “Sugarpova,” tennis ball-shaped candy designed by women’s tennis star Maria Sharapova. A percentage of Sugarpova’s sales go to a charity benefiting children living near the Chernobyl area.

“Many people who visit this location have been to other It’sugar locations,” Genus said. “This, combined with It’sugar’s appeal to all ages, make It’sugar very popular.”

At It’sugar, one can also purchase pillows, stuffed animals, glassware, technology, such as headphones, large inflatable beer bottles, designer clothing, candy accessories and even candy lingerie, for more risque sugar consumption.

While It’sugar may appear to be just another candy store, it’s products easily set it apart.
