Knights boys cross country surprises with region win

The Midtown boys cross country team pulled off an upset win in the 6AAAAA cross country championships hosted by Chapel Hill High School at the Clinton Nature Preserve. The team was projected to finish 3rd behind Maynard Jackson and Chapel Hill, and was not in contention for an individual title, but was able to make moves in the last mile of the race in order to both win the meet and the individual title, all without one of their top runners in junior Zach Spangler. The first place finish qualifies them for the state championships, held in Carrollton on Nov. 6th.

The boys finished with a score of just 40 points and an average team time of 17:07 for the 5k, and the top three spots were swept by seniors Marcus Johnson in 16:37, William Palmer in 16:39, and Everett Schroeder in 16:40, all personal best times by a significant margin.
