First Grady Community Dialogue facilitates discourse

After the Henry W. Grady Renaming Committee voted on Thursday, August 12 to slow down the renaming process in order to hear more community input, Grady alumni organized two virtual Grady Community Dialogues to encourage discourse about the renaming process. The first discussion took place on Monday, August 17 and featured Representative Park Cannon, Courtney English, Tamara Jones, Maria Saporta, Taliyah Holloway and Professor Timothy Crimmins as panelists. The virtual discussion began with 45 minutes of moderated dialogue among the panelists, and the last 30 minutes consisted of separate breakout rooms for each panelist to facilitate conversations with community members. The dialogue covered a range of themes including the history of Henry W. Grady, proposals for the new name, why the name matters and how the community can expand the conversation surrounding the renaming process. The next Grady Community Dialogue will take place on Friday, August 24 and feature Henry W. Grady III and Neil Williams among others as panelists.
