Quill and Scroll, 2018 Writing, Photo & Multimedia Contest

Quill and Scroll, an organization that honors the best work done by student journalists around the world, released the list of winners for the 2018 award cycle. Among them, many Southerner staff members were named national winners.

Charlotte Spears (sophomore) was declared a national winner in the News Writing category for her story “Elementary school girls advocate for dress code change.”

Alex Durham (senior), Rachel Price (senior) and Katie Earles (senior) were declared national winners in the In-Depth — Team Reporting category for their story “Individually we are different; Together we are divided.”

Jack Rafferty (senior) was declared a national winner in the Opinion Column category for his story “Gender based voting is unreasonable.”

Alex Durham (senior) was declared a national winner in the Opinion Column for his story “School security needs updates to repair holes.”

Anya Lomsadze (senior) was declared a national winner in the Feature Writing category for her story “Feminine products kept hidden.”

Gaby Paez (senior) was declared a national winner in the Political Writing category for her story “Immigration crackdown raises students’ fears, anxiety of deportation.”
