Grady swim teams sends two to finals at state meet

The Grady swim team was among the 1,281 swimmers representing 125 high schools who competed at the high school state swim meet on Feb. 6 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Of the six Grady relay teams and four individuals racing in today’s preliminaries, sophomore Melissa Brown and junior Justin Cucchi qualified for the final rounds, which will be held tomorrow. The top 20 swimmers in each event qualify for the finals. Cucchi placed 19th in the 200-yard individual medley to become the first male individual swimmer in Grady history to make it to the final rounds of state, Brown placed 15th in the preliminary rounds of the 50-yard freestyle.

On Feb. 7, Grady swim team members Justin Cucchi and Melissa Brown competed in the Georgia High School Association Swimming and Diving state championships finals. Brown swam the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.10, placing 19th among the girls, while Cucchi placed 18th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.80.
