Grady was placed on a lock down this morning after one student was rushed to the hospital. An APD spokeswoman stated that the student suffered a “self-inflicted wound to the thigh,” multiple news outlets reported.

In between the C200 building and the old basketball gym, custodians observed a small, pink hand gun around 9:40 a.m., which may have been used as a weapon in the incident that took place today. Immediately before discovering the weapon, the custodians observed drops of blood on the sidewalk. The gun was confiscated soon afterward.

At 10:52 a.m., principal Vincent Murray made an announcement to students.

“Students and staff please know that your safety is our first priority,” he said. “You are safe and any outlying situations are being handled.”

Students at Grady returned to their normal class schedules starting at 12 p.m.
