The Atlanta Board of Education released on its website the names of 10 principals and will vote to approve the candidates at a board meeting on Monday, June 2. The board approved Timothy Guiney as the new Grady principal.

Guiney has worked as an educator for 12 years in the Clayton County School District as both an administrator and an educator. He received a Bachelor’s degree in English at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at the University of West Georgia. Currently, he is principal at Adamson Middle School in Clayton County.

The Grady principal selection process consisted of three tiers to narrow down the applicant pool. The third tier was an interview with the principal selection committee made up of 12 community member including three students. The selection committee interviewed and scored the applicants, then submitted the top candidates to Meria Carstarphen, who ultimately chose Guiney as the principal. The Board of Education then voted on, and subsequently passed, the report.

The ten schools also expecting new principal hires are Gideons Elementary, North Atlanta High School, Mays High School, Sutton Middle School, Carver School of Health Sciences Research, Carver School of Technology, Therrell Health Science and Research, Crim High School, Grady High School and Morris Brandon Elementary School.

North Atlanta’s new principal is current assistant principal, Curtis Douglass. Douglass has served as an administrator at Gwinnett Public Schools as well as Atlanta Public Schools.
